I'm out of here...Turnover intentions and Work Friends

We often think when people are going leave an organization, they might burn their bridges and break all of their social ties. A recent fascinating study by Christian Tröster, Daan van Knippenberg, Andrew Parker, and Ben Sahlmüller, shows not all ties are the same.


Interestingly, when people are considering leaving their jobs, they change their workplace advice networks, but they maintain their work friendships. So when we are on our way out the door we hold our friends close and shore up those social bonds, whereas we become more opportunistic when we need help and advice.
